Crazy Stuff!

I am reading through the Old Testament right now, and seriously... there is some crazy stuff in there! A few weeks ago I read a human sacrifice in Judges. A man went to battle and told God that when he got home he would honor the Lord by offering a burnt sacrifice to Him of whatever came out of the house to greet him on his journey home. And then when he got home his daughter came out to welcome him home so he burned her to death as an offering to God! He wasn't happy about it, and he told his daughter the truth and she told him he had to keep his promise to God, but it was crazy! I was waiting for God to pull an Isaac and provide a ram for the sacrifice, but nope. The girl died.

And this morning I finished 1 Samuel. King Saul was going to battle with the Philistines and he was scared. Samuel was already dead so Saul went to a "medium" and had her raise Samuel's spirit from the dead so he could talk to Samuel about whether or not he would win the battle.

I mean, I've read several stories that were... well, let's just say, if it were fiction, it wouldn't be a book I read. I don't like barbarism, and these stories are all really fierce.

But I have never read through the Bible front to back. It has been very interesting so far. I'm a long way from Matthew, but I am looking forward to the New Testament. I have a feeling that by the time I finish Malachi I will be in serious need of some Jesus! But for now, I am excited about starting 2 Samuel tomorrow.
