The girl on fire!!!
Yesterday my hair briefly caught on fire. (A little mishap with a weak match while lighting our afternoon candle at school. Oops!) The downer there - burned hair stinks! The plus side, it was my second Hunger Games reference of the day! Woohoo!
I realized this morning, while washing said slightly burned hair, that the worst thing about hiding from my computer because I don't want you to hear me whine about my struggles, is that I don't get to give props to things in my life that are bringing me smiles. So this is a long overdue statement, but I'm going to say it anyway: I heart The Hunger Games series.
Have you read it? Do you love it? Jenina, if you haven't read them, I hope this inspires you to do so! I should just learn the lesson... anything that all three of my sisters recommend to read is worth reading. They had been mentioning it for months, but it just didn't sound like the kind of book I would be into. When I hear the phrase "post apocalyptic", it immediately makes me think of several movies that frankly, all feel too similar. I feel like that story has been done. Which isn't really fair, because I have given VERY few of those stories (books and films included) a chance. Maybe they are all totally different. I wouldn't know. I just know that I am typically drawn to stories that feel new. I don't like to encounter the same story over and over. I guess I don't want to feel like the story I am reading or watching is one that I could have come up with myself. I spend enough time in my head.
Yesterday was Field Day at our school. I am in charge of posting photos to our Facebook page and in the description for the field day album I put "may the odds be ever in your favor ;-) Couldn't resist. And then my hair briefly caught on fire. Stinky, yes, but my hand shot up in the air as I announced "ladies and gentlemen, the girl on fire"!
It was a weird week at work. I got a few hours of overtime, so that's nice, but I am glad the week is over. I administered the standardized test to our fifth graders which meant that I came in an hour early and spent the first two or three hours of each day out of the office. I loved being out of the office, but it made my time in the office more difficult. I was rushed to get things done, and Michelle was grumpy because the office needs two people in it. Wednesday and Thursday she was on her own til 10ish.
Well. Enough of that. I just weighed in and I did not have a loss this week, but drum roll.... I didn't gain either. I maintained. That almost NEVER happens for me. I'm pretty happy with that result. I tracked this week, but I used pretty much all of my flex points too. Maybe even a few more than I had to use. And mostly on Thursday and Friday. So I am very thankful to not have a gain and I am PUMPED about going to the grocery store today. I have the house to myself for dinner tonight so I may experiment with some of my healthy goodies. In fact, I think I have just decided to make Hungry Girlfredo for dinner. I have never tried it before.
Well I am off to Bot-Con. Hopefully I will have enough life in me to give you a recap. It's sure to be interesting.
Hope you have a good weekend! And may the odds be ever in your favor!

Weekend Wrap Up
I am happy to say that our weekend ended as nicely as it began. This was the most beautiful weather we have had in Irving, Texas in... I'm not sure how long. It was perfect. And I usually reserve that word for the fall. I am a fall girl, all the way. But this weekend was SO nice! I am thankful we were able to spend some of it outside.
The drive-in was fun last night. We ended up seeing The Three Stooges last night. No one was really crazy about seeing it, but it was our best option. It's the experience that counts at the drive in, and ours couldn't have been better. A good group, lots of stars in the sky, cheap tasty grub and blankets to cuddle under. Two thumbs up =-)
Church was good today but I couldn't stop yawning. It was making my eyes water like crazy and I think that people may have thought I was crying because about 10 people asked me if I was okay, one of them being the pastor. Sorry! Not trying to look gloomy! Just couldn't stop the yawns.
I may regret it in about an hour, but I took a nap this afternoon. I usually have trouble falling asleep at night if I take a nap, but I just couldn't fight it today. I was useless. I did dishes pre-nap and hung up laundry post nap. I have another load drying and one washing, so not a totally unproductive day.
Tonight Brett's mom took us to dinner and we ate on the patio at our favorite restaurant. It was gorgeous, delicious, and a good time. So thankful for her generosity.
I'm a little nervous about work tomorrow (all week actually) but I'm trying not to worry. No point.
Praying for blessings all around this week! I am hoping that mine will include some crafting. I am going to Bot-Con (the national Transformers convention) with my two favorite nerds next weekend: Brett and his bestie, Chuck. I have never been to a convention of any kind before, so it should be interesting!
Rolling Out!

"She's Alive!!!"
The new blogger.com look is totally throwing off my game. What's happening here?
Just wanted to do a quick check in. Life has been moving really fast lately. It was a hard week, but it's been a great weekend so far.
We instated a new policy at work last week, and three people quit over it. What? I was totally taken by surprised. It is a good policy, and if people are leaving over it, good riddance. But it has made us suddenly short staffed at a very busy time of year. I am thankful for getting some overtime here and there, but it was kind of a rough week. Hopefully we will have our entire staff back next week (had a til six-er out sick and one out serving on a jury) and it will be easier on everyone.
Last night Brett came with me to see one of our part time girls perform in her Spring dance recital. She is SO sweet! She was a student at the school growing up, and last year when she started at a community college she came applying for part time work. She is one of our hardest workers. Never complains, loves the kids, and they are in love with her. I was happy to support her and come see her dance. Wish we had sat on the back row. Would have had more leg room and no drunk people behind us. Those were the two downers of our experience. But still glad we went.
This afternoon, we went and visited my dad who is competing this weekend in his second competitive barbecue cook-off. It was so neat! The best weather you could ask for, tons of friendly people and SERIOUSLY delicious food. They will be announcing the winners soon and I hope that my dad places. His brisket was ridiculous!
Tonight we are headed to Galaxy Drive-in with our Sunday school class. Not any great movies out, but always a fun experience and the absolute best weather for the drive-in. We love going =-)
I tracked Weight Watcher points this week, for the first time in probably two months. It was a long time coming, but I think I am maybe arising from the darkness I seem to have been walking through for a while. Praying for God's grace, mercy and strength.
Hopefully you will hear from me more, if there is anyone out there still checking in on me =-)
